How to Navigate This
Site

How this website functions
-
The website is
organized using the Cabinet / Drawer / Folder / Subfolder
paradigm. The website itself is the Cabinet. Each major section
is a Drawer ("About Us," "Staff Support," "Calendar / Reports,"
"News," "Documents," and "Contact Us"). Within each Drawer,
there are Folders, and these appear as hot links on the left
side bar. Finally, Folders might contain Subfolders in one or
more levels of subordination.
-
Each sidebar has a
label at the top of the tap, telling the viewer which is the
Drawer (major section) for that page. Also, the top menu bar
will show that section's cell grayed.
-
All local links
(connection to pages that reside on this website's server) open
in the same window. When you're done with a local page, you may
go to a different page or return to the page you were in before.
-
All external links
(connections to pages that reside in a different website, under
someone else's control) open in a separate window. This makes
navigation easier: when you're done with an external link, just
close the window and you'll be back where you started.
-
All document links
are treated as external links.
Graphic elements
-
For ease of
navigation, the graphic elements on the banner are linked to
predictable locations, and these will be available from every
page on the website.
-
The Texas Wing
patch leads to the site's opening page.
-
The little CAP
Command Patch leads to the CAP NHQ website.
-
The little stylized
AF Wings emblem leads to the AF Link website
-
The CAP Cessna in
flight leads to the CAPERS - CAPSTAR website.
How the
information is organized
-
The website has six
major sections, organized logically and accessible via the top
menu bar. Whenever you open a section, the left menu bar will
bear the name of that section at the top. Also, the cell
containing the link to that section will gray out. The sample
shot above is the opening page in the About Us section.
-
Within each
section, the left menu bar will contain subsections (links to
pages, documents, or external links) that have to do with that
section. The titles on the left menu bar may lead to a single
page or to a collection of pages. When the subsection has
multiple pages, the links to the various sections are normally
found on the left sidebar, under the subsection's link, or at
the top of that page.
-
Some subsections
have other links that have to do with that specific page. Some
times, these are grouped neatly on the right menu bar, under the
staff member's name.
The six major
sections are

About Us
Here the visitor will find information about Texas Wing itself,
how it is organized, and how it relates to higher headquarters.
Our immediate higher echelon is Southwest Region, one of eight
CAP regions in the nation, and National Headquarters is at the
top. Some links to pages in the Staff Support section are here
as well, since it makes them easier to find.
-
Staff Support
This is the largest section, representing all staff
positions in Texas Wing. Each staff officer is responsible for
maintaining the content of his / her staff section, making sure
the links are up to date, and updating necessary procedural and
training material. Ideally, these sections will give the Group
and Squadron staff officers an easy link to their counterpart at
Texas Wing.
-
Calendar /
Reports
As the title implies, the wing calendar will be found
here, as well as links to various reports published by Texas
Wing.
-
News
This section will contain news, news releases, and news
archive of wing-wide events.
-
Documents
All Texas Wing documents will be found here, as well as
links to documents on the CAP National website.
-
Contact Us
The visitor will find here easy access to key persons in
Texas Wing.
Navigating within
a section
-
With the exception
of the opening page of the About Us section, all other pages
will be labeled at the top with the name of the Folder [and
Subfolder(s), if applicable].
-
In some sections,
there are links that lead to pages in a different section. If
you see that you called a page from the About Us section and now
you are in the Staff Support section, but you want to return to
the original page, simply hit your "return" button or click on
the "return" arrow at the top of your browser.
