DENTON, Texas – What is the purpose of the Cadet Advisory
Council (CAC)? Can the CAC really be effective? These are
common questions that the Group II CAC has effectively
answered this year. CACs are charged with missions by their
echelon of responsibility. The Group II CAC set specific
goals last year, and has successfully reached most of them.
The Group II CAC is chaired by Cadet 1st Lt. Addison Jaynes,
vice-chaired by Cadet 1st Lt. Anderson Frazier, and assisted
by the recorder, Cadet 2nd Lt. Jonathan Novotny. Overall
supervision falls upon the Group II Cadet Programs Officer,
Capt. Fletcher Sharp.
At the beginning of the term, the council cadet officers met
and deliberated on how the council should be run it order to
be most effective. Most wings have issues with keeping their
CAC active. In fact, surprisingly, few CACs are able to keep
an active group – even a wing CAC – for more than a year
because of poor participation and low motivation.
When the Group II CAC's term began, the council cadet
officers and Captain Fletcher Sharp, worked on finding a
solution to ensure that all squadrons would be represented
regularly. Since the Group II Cadet Advisory Councils are
widely spread out, it was a given that face-to-face meetings
would be a challenge.
The council decided to host teleconferences on two out of
three months, scheduling a face-to-face meeting once a
quarter. This has worked well, and the Group II CAC is now
on a straight path forward.
At this time, the Texas Wing Group II CAC plans on
submitting a published report to TXWG on a quarterly basis.
Because the Cadet Advisory Council represents every cadet in
the command, it leadership firmly believes that
communication to all echelons is important.
