Members of the Texas Wing
Texas Wing Civil Air Patrol has a rich history dating back to the days of the World War II Coastal Patrols when the first national headquarters was located just south of Houston at Ellington Field. We are the sum of that history just as we are now a reflection of our immediate past commander, Col Joe Smith, and all of the commanders that have come before him. These men and women were guided by their love of the organization, their vision for the greatness Texas Wing can achieve and most importantly, by their strength of character.
Our core values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence and Respect must guide all members, but most importantly the commander. We respect our members by communicating with them in ways that demonstrate that we care enough about them to let them know the “why” behind decisions. We make volunteer service important by placing emphasis on safety and training, showing our members that the time they give to CAP is valuable and we won’t squander it on irrelevant meetings.
We show our commitment to excellence by carefully selecting our leaders, mentoring them to learn their job and helping them to move into the next position. In my opinion integrity is the most important of the core values. Integrity is not something you can assume as you are given command. You are recognized as a leader and people choose to follow you because you have displayed integrity as a part of your journey through the organization.
Core values, by their very definition, are what should be at the center of who we are and what we believe and this defines us as individuals and professionals. If we don’t incorporate these values into our lives - people know; they can tell the difference in the leaders who wear their values to effect and those that live their values.
I hope that I can model these behaviors for you as I assume the role of Texas Wing Commander and that these behaviors are the first thing that our customers and our partners think of when they talk about the members of Texas Wing. We’re all important. We all matter. The things that we do as individuals reflect on all of us as a Wing. One Wing – One Team.
Respectfully,
Brooks Cima, Col, CAP
Wing Commander
