News - Mission 10-M-0683, 29 August 2010
GEORGETOWN, Texas – From where I stand, Mission 10-M-0683 is now complete. I want to thank all who volunteered to support the mission in search for Chuck Miller's missing airplane from beginning to end. And yesterday, Aug. 28, 2010, we had 23 CAP members from local squadrons, Texas Wing, and Southwest Region attend the funeral services for 1st Lt. Charles W. "Chuck" Miller.
Of these, four were pilots who overflew the funeral home as they said farewell to a fellow pilot, and six were cadets. Under the leadership of Cadet 2nd Lt. Justin Frederick, Cadet Sr. Master Sgt. Sydney Alexander, Cadet Tech. Sgt. Ellen Birrell, Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Stephen Corley, and Cadet Sr. Master Sgt. Roxanne Upton did a great job presenting and retrieved the colors. Members of the Apollo ground team, including Cadet Airman Thomas Diaz were in attendance.
A special thanks to Lt. Col. Rick Woolfolk, 10-M-0683 Mission Incident Commander who had his hand on the pulse of this mission that required coordination with Arkansas and Louisiana Wings in the search, a task that extended to the very end, as he witnessed the Air Force Honor Guard give a final tribute as they presented the American Flag to his widow, Mrs. Suzy Miller.
To everyone else, 1st Lt. John Welsh, Maj. Cheri Fischler, Chaplain (Capt.) Bert Lortie, pilots, air crew, ground crew, cadet support staff, and all cadets for always being there ready to do whatever is needed, and always doing it well.
Thank you so very much for being who you are. It is that combined effort of all that makes Civil Air Patrol.
Capt. Sue Kristoffersen, CAP
