Our Mission
I want to take a moment of your time to pass on a little bit of wisdom that
I feel has made the Texas Wing as great as it has been. The members of TEXAS WING -
CAP are among the finest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with in my
many years of services.
As in the prop on our aircraft it takes 3 major possessions to be an accomplished
CAP member
First is Time:
You need time to do the jobs you committed to. Sometimes we have members who are
very good, but if they don’t have the time we have to do what we can to accommodate
them.
Second is the Ability:
You cannot be an aircraft mechanic without a license, but in most jobs in CAP you
can be trained. If someone has an interest in a particular area we have to try and
accommodate as best we can those individuals who CAN ATTEMPT to do the job. Sometimes
however, “ability” is more subtle. If a person does not have good verbal communication
skills they need to improve on that before taking on a position of PAO or Commander for
example.
Third is a strong Desire.
This is the most important attribute. You can have all the time and ability in
the world, but if you have “burned out” or lost interest and have no desire,
we cannot help. It is a commander’s responsibility to keep our volunteers motivated by
letting them do “fun” things and occasionally changing jobs.
To be a good volunteer takes all three of the above attributes.
Remember this the next time someone approaches you to volunteer for an assignment,
or you approach someone to take an assignment.
